ayurvedic bodywork

Abhyanga is an ancient Ayurvedic therapy in which warm, herbalized oil is applied to the entire body. Performed in a direction towards the heart, the benefits include improving blood circulation, calming the nerves, lubricating the joints, assisting in elimination of impurities from the body, and tones the tissues leaving you with a soft, dewy glow.

Shirodhara comes from the two Sanskrit words “shiro” (head) and “dhara” (flow). This Ayurvedic healing technique involves warm oil slowly and methodically poured from a copper pot onto your forehead, in a steady stream, creating a blissful sensation. This purifying and rejuvenating therapy is designed to reduce stress and mental exhaustion.

PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR AYURVEDIC BODYWORK

Transition Timing

  • Arrive 15 minutes before the appointment to have ample time to review your paperwork without feeling rushed. The practitioner will explain your service and give you an opportunity to ask questions about the treatment or discuss any concerns. Please discuss any recent areas of pain or surgical procedures with your practitioner prior to the treatment.

  • It is common to be so relaxed in your treatment that you might fall asleep. If this happens the practitioner will allow you to receive the treatment in this restful state. It would be beneficial to leave extra time in your daily schedule transition out of the relaxed state and to avoid the need to rush out. If for any reason you need to leave early, please inform the practitioner who will accommodate the treatment plan to include transition time.

  • If you are receiving a Shirodhara treatment, you may feel very relaxed. Taking an Uber or getting a driver to bring you to and from the appointment would be beneficial, especially if this is your first treatment. Otherwise allowing for more time to go for a walk before driving can be advisable.

What to Bring

  • Your Ayurvedic Bodywork treatment uses oils that are intended to stay on the body after you leave to shower at home. For this reason, please bring or wear clothing and socks that you know could be soiled by oil.

  • A water bottle of warm or room temperature water to stay hydrated.

  • A comb to smooth out your oiled hair.

  • 20% gratuity is appreciated
